BIOGRAPHY

​

Sidhen of the dúnedain hails from Esteldin, the capital city of the North Downs in Eriador. Born in TA 2937, Sidhen, the daughter of a ranger and a crafts-woman, is a ranger in her own right, tasked with guarding the eastern border of the Shire as well as running errands and messages between Sarn Ford-Bree-Esteldin-Annúminas-Taurdal.

Sidhen is a dúnadeth of no renown, as she never fought in any major battles. Frequently found in her company are her mentor Maradan and her best friend Toram. Together the tree of them follow the duty the dúnedain performed for hundreds of years, guarding and protecting the world of men, elves, dwarves and hobbits. Concerning the War of the Ring, she did not ride south with the Grey Company to the Pelennor Fields, while Toram did. However, she was an active participant in the fight against Sharkey’s lackeys during the Scourging of the Shire, and was one of three who led the fight in Oatbarton together with the Hornblower sisters. Shortly after the end of the war, news came of the death of several of the Grey Company, Toram included. Sidhen collapsed in grief and was never the same.

Sidhen shares many of the qualities the dúnedain have: she is somber and quiet, calculated but quick to laughter and story-telling when the company is right. She does however bear a tad of jealousy for elves and Gondorian nobles. The life of the dúnedain is a life of sadness, poverty and shadows. Compared to the lavish and luxurious life, the nice clothes and food they seem to have, the hardship her kindred endures in quietness is harder still to bear.

Throughout her life, the lesson Sidhen learns is that: while the years spent protecting others have been thankless, this does not mean that she should not continue performing her duty to the joyful souls who know not of the dangers just outside their borders. Long after the War of the Ring and after more than ninety years of servitude had passed, Sidhen retires between the borders of the Shire and Bree-land, marries a lass from Bree by the name of Mara and lives the rest of her life abiding by the hobbit philosophy of nurturing and loving your home and your surroundings, tending to an apple orchard and cattle.
