QUESTIONS AND INFORMATION
QUESTION: Does Sidhen keep in touch with the other rangers after she retires, like Maradan? And what do they think of her retirement; are they happy for her or do they view it as her fleeing her duty? (They shouldn't, but people can be pretty unreasonable sometimes, you know?).
ANSWER: Against her wishes after the Scouring of the Shire, Sidhen became quite the local legend in west Eriador. Hobbits from the northern part of the Shire love to tell tales about the ranger woman who loves their country so much that she fought for them and now lives with them.

The way I view things is that after the War of the Ring and Aragorn’s Coronation the conflicts in the north settled down for quite a long while. Canon even tells us that Aragorn at one point came and dwelt at his Arnorian court in Annuminas. I imagine the dunedain of the north must have all migrated more or less in the Evendim - North Downs area and rebuilt Aragorn’s court together. Since the northern part of the Shire borders Evendim, I really think a lot of the dunedain must have traveled close enough to Sidhen’s house to pay her lots of visits. After all, had she wished it, Sidhen would have become a member of the Grey Council. (I didn’t make it up, I swear I read somewhere that all the highest ranking members of the dunedain form a council to mimic the White Council called the Grey Council.) It is quite funny to me that after everything, after all her wishes to remain a ranger of no renown, she is now of the most beloved due to her dedication to the northern lands.

As for Maradan, he passed away due to old age in Fourth Age 64, living to quite the age of 172. And of course he visited Sidhen often and together they would visit Toram’s grave in the North Downs.

I don’t think any of the other rangers had any objections to her retiring, after all the great War has been won and the lands were peaceful. All of us deserve peace and quiet once in a while.
